We rented Scratch. They show nice footage of all the djs' hands. Love that Mixmastermike and his big necklace. All the djs attribute their interest in 'turntablism' to the first time they heard Grandmixer DXT'S "zhigga zhigga" sounds in Herbie Hancock's Rockit (everyone except the dude who lays claim to the invention of scratching: Grandwizard Theodore). The movie includes clips of the 1983 Grammy performance of Rockit: the stage's 3-pairs of gigantic, torso-free legs, ominously suspended above the band, moving robotically in forward-walking, mid-air motion to the beat, while clothed in off-white flowing business-suit pants is hilarious today, but its also something you might see (with backward-glancing-tongue-in-cheek) at a club today. I'll stop with the eighties stuff soon.
